Color is a starting convention

White pads are commonly associated with polishing, red with lighter cleaning, blue or green with more aggressive scrubbing, and black with stripping. Manufacturers vary, so color alone is not a compatibility specification.

Use the least aggressive pad that achieves the result. Aggression, pressure, speed and chemical action compound one another and can remove finish faster than expected.

Fit affects both cleaning and safety

A pad must fit the driver and sit centered. An incorrect diameter can leave edges unsupported, increase vibration or contact machine components.
